The TY Danjuma Foundation is organising the First Nigerian Philanthropy Forum on December 2-3, 2010 titled “Building Synergies for Advancing Philanthropy and Social Investment in Nigeria”.

The Forum aims to bring together Philanthropic Non-Profit Organisations, Community Self Help Groups, Bilateral and Multi-lateral Donors, Government Agencies and the Private Sector to deliberate and strategise on how philanthropy in all its forms can contribute to social development in the country.

The objectives of the proposed forum are to:

•– Reflect on the emergence of philanthropy in Nigeria; •– Learn from models of philanthropy across Africa and globally; •– Strategise on developing an enabling tax environment for giving; •– Promote collaboration between individual and corporate giving; •– Develop a field of best practices for Nigerian philanthropy; •– Provide a space for engagement with Government, Philanthropic Organisations, and the Private Sector. The Forum will consist of a series of expert presentations and thematic sessions. The key themes of the presentations and sessions are:

•– Shaping Philanthropy in Nigeria; •– The Potential of Philanthropy in achieving the MDGs; •– Investing in Nigeria’s Educational Sector for the 21st century; •– Prioritising Rural Health Care Development; •– Promoting Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship as a Strategy to Reduce Youth Unemployment; •– Learning from International Experiences on Philanthropy; •– Advancing Strategic Philanthropy that Supports Women’s Empowerment; •– Making corporate social responsibility more responsible.
